'Tis heresy in some places to say it, so i'll go on saying it: Phil Seaman & Joe Harriott made as perfect a drum/alto sound as ANY of the American masters. Hear how tight Seaman's chops are – crunch-in, then gallop OUT – in great contrast to the lilt (no chaser, rum-style) and spiritedness entwined of Harriott's playing on 'Formation', for example. Long live the British Jazz Invasion!
