'Tis heresy in some places to say it, so i'll go on saying it: Phil Seaman & Joe Harriott made as perfect a drum/alto sound as ANY of the American masters. Hear how tight Seaman's chops are – crunch-in, then gallop OUT – in great contrast to the lilt (no chaser, rum-style) and spiritedness entwined of Harriott's playing on 'Formation', for example. Long live the British Jazz Invasion!
Mostly sneezes, reposts, thoughts, rantings, unedited nonsense, and favourite or interesting links and news and passages and quotes and engaging music and film, etc.. Don't expect to like it.

Poetry
is not a luxury. It is a vital necessity of our existence. It forms
the quality of the light within which we predicate our hopes and
dreams toward survival and change, first made into language, then
into idea, then into more tangible action. Poetry is the way we help
give name to the nameless so it can be thought. The farthest
horizons of our hopes and fears are cobbled by our poems, carved from
the rock experiences of our daily lives. Audre
Lorde, "Poetry is not a Luxury," Sister Outsider:
Essays and Speeches (Freedom,
Ca: The Crossing Press, 1984), p. 38.

and now the panopticon is a ruin
but never mind for i can imagine the landscape however i want
if a desert, it’ll be a tell
if rich with vegetation, wisteria will grow over the buildings
if in Antarctica, it’ll be a phantasmagoria of ice
some folks (working women, crazies, schoolchildren, poets) still live there, they don’t realize no one guards them
for in times of plenitude, systems of domination don’t pay attention any more to populations, it’s not their job to feed them
it has to do with what you were saying, that “capital is illiterate”
i have to get out:
exit biology, remain in my body
Positive, wishful thinking is a worthless, hypocritical delusion if you eagerly participate in the reproduction of a psychopathic society. “Mary Pierce, a woman who claimed she was filled with great love for everyone in the world, was killed today by a man who says he didn't know that.” (George Carlin)

Perhaps it's true that only through agreeing to play by the rules and not offend the delicate sensibilities of the middle-class will the Bernie movement become a true political majority. But it's not clear what's to be gained from such growth, if in exchange we make sure to refrain from doing anything that disrupts the smooth reproduction of the status quo. The filling of U.S. voting booths and streets with millions of people doing little but complying is unlikely to bring even mild reform. No, to do that we'll have to resort to the old strategies of the strike, the blockade, sabotage and — one hopes — the occupation and expropriation of private property.
